Random thoughts on the reading of slash subtext into dialogue.

Just something I have thinking about. There are probably lots of better examples but here are some that stuck with me.

Ways Fraser said I love you to Ray Vecchio in canon without saying the words:

Must be love... )

slash, subtext, dialogue

Something I personally find interesting is that Ray is more overt in what he says than Benny is. But to my mind that's understandable; Ray's Italian and show his emotions far more. Benny was brought up very reservedly and one gets the feeling almost without too much emotion. He was loved by his father and grandparents, but I don't think they showed it overtly as Ray's family did ( ... )

That's interesting as I found it harder to rememeber the times Ray said something that we can read slashily. I had to read thorugh a few transcripts to pikc up the words. I mean the Flashback and VS ones were obvious but it was harder to find other examples. Then again I lifted a lot from RWOB for Fraser...I do see Ray as showing it clearly through his actions too. Whereas Fraser's actions are more subtle. I think ( ... )

Ah, now that is indeed interesting. VS and FB are indeed *so* obvious. Yes, Fraser is more subtle, but it's clearly there ( ... )

They couldn't be any more obvious if they tried. Myabe. And yes it's still pretty obvious what Fraser does.

I think it's interesting they both have a positive affect on each other.

It really was. And the subtext was very obvious. I agree Ray acted mroe like a jilted lover than sinply a friend. It was obvious the 'party' was for Fraser's benefit in many ways.

I do. I might need to meta on that further.

It is and you know he means it. Not just a friend indeed.

He couldn't.

Oh that postcard *tears up* so much love in that little thing.

You do. I know what you mean there's a difference between the un-Fraser like Fraser we do see at times in S3 and that unFraserlike Fraser. He is much more the Fraser of old acting out of love and as we saw in VS love makes him do crazy things.

Thank you. I can breathe well.

*No, Ray. I know you. You were attempting to protect this institution-- *

I just love that one and Ray's quick denial-that's so cute. And It was said in a tone that has a much deeper affection. I don't know I'd say there's plenty subtext between them the that suggest the slashy-ness to be had.

The I love yous do abound. (Oh, Benny, I could kiss you!) is pretty clear.
but this is my favorite ray line ( I mean, it’s just one of those special cases where alone we’re incomplete, but together we’re better than we are separately. You know what I mean?) Oh I feel the love. :)The question is when are the not saying I love you. I know My husband likes to show his love through his actions, and consideration of others. So Fraser isn't alone there.

Hee yes Ray is straight in there with the denial. And there is always affection int heor voices no matter waht they are doing or what situation they are in.

And oh yes lots of lovely subtext.

I love that I oculd kiss you line.
That Alone we're incomplete one is my favourite too. So much love.

And I agree they both show a lot of love through their actions. It's lovely.

Oh, man! This just makes me want to watch all of s1 & 2 again! :-) I can't remember much dialogue, but something I've really noticed when doing the commentaries (on The Deal and BitH) is their body language, which is so attuned. That bit in the cop diner in BitH where Vecchio's eating donuts and the ATF agent suggests and plan, and Fraser looks to Ray for approval before agreeing. EEEEEEE! I am still squeeing! *g*

Hee You should. *nods* I've just memoried entire episodes. I could renact North if needed...

But yes the body language just creams harmony. They just move around in each other's space so easily, they make it look easy. And it's totally natural. Mmmm.

I love that look Fraser gives. It's such a couple thing to do. There's no other explanation ;-) *joins in the squee*
