Arashi’s style and ideas of global activities (part 3)

In Japan, in the past 2-3 years, we also see many entertainers from various countries entering the market, so how do you feel about it? Sakurai san, I think, since you're also a news caster, perhaps there are many occasions when you come in contact with discussions about the weakening of ( Read more... )

What they said totally made a lot of sense. I mean in Indonesia kpop is always coming. And that's because the promoters are inviting them. They made deals etc. there are regulations in certain countries that arashi can't just come whenever they want booked a stadium and sing. So it is not just whether they want to or not. It is about whether there are demands or not. And whether they have enough demands. Because if i were Johnny i wouldnt risk their image to make a small con overseas that has a possibility of not being successful. That would be too much of an unnecessary risk. And time is certainly a lot of money for these guys. Why bother when demands inside japan was already hard to fulfill.

I know i am probably killing myself here but it is a different approach that AKB is doing. We have JKT48 here and AKB members keep coming. I dont like them but then I went to their con here and actually buy JKT stuff to at least help their sales. Why? So perhaps if they succeed and prove that japanese idols have market here (tho from their con a ( ... )

Yeah, exactly!
Well, in the past they went to Asian countries, so I think management must know there is a demand at least in those countries. But now the situation is different from 2008, they got too big in Japan.

If they ever have a tour in say Seoul, I'm 100% sure half of the seat will be filled by the "refugees" fans from Japan :D

IKR! I am 100 percent sure as well about that!
I don't hope for international con or anything (and that bit about bon jovi really cracks me up!), but at least make Arashi tickets available at Jticket international one day. I heard you get like amazing seats from the people who've bought HSJ tickets from there!

I was about to comment on this.

About TV shows, I think I heard in Singapore? VS Arashi is airing/aired?
I think it depends on the policy of TV Station. There are stations that sell their shows, so if your country TV, for example, want to air Arashi program, they can negotiate. The problem is whether there's enough demand for local TV to air it, right? Same goes with Dramas, I think.

Basically releasing English version of sub dramas is the same? The TV has the right of DVD production and distribution. They don't release it because they think there's not enough demand out there. Considering the price, maybe they're correct, though. I think they can't risk releasing an English subbed when piracy is everywhere.

Perhaps so, but I think it could also be true that stations not producing alternative methods is one of the roots of the piracy among fans. Frankly, I would rather buy DVDs and apply subtitles to those than download them, but the prices are ridiculous, and I can't afford it. However, I can get shows from Korea, most of Europe, and South America for a relatively low cost legally, so I don't need to download them, and I can apply subtitles. Most of the DVDs you can buy of Japanese dramas in major media outlets are pirated versions, which are poorer quality than most legit DVD versions and have stolen fansubs applied to them, which would probably sell less to most people if they had a legitimate way of getting them... does that make sense? I'm a sociology major, so I am really just applying a lot of social theory to my reasoning, which isn't really absolute, if you know what I mean... :-P ( ... )

Thank you for translating this! It's a sad reality ne? but I'm happy because at least they are aware that they have international fans. And regarding the uchiwa at the Japan expo, my friends and I are actually doing that XDD Whenever there is Cosplay or Anime expo here in our country, we always bring some Arashi items XDD We also have experience wherein when we went to a popular historical site here in our country, we bring our uchiwas and there are some Japanese who took a picture of us XDD

as sad as i am to learning their thoughts about international activity and concerts, it's also understandable. A japanese mentality and thinking in term of arashi's is really different after all. what i do like however is that they do not play favorites with their fans at all. whether they are international or in japan. or even whether they are from different prefectures with in japan. to them, fans are just fans and they are grateful to each and everyone of them.

Thanks for the translation! it broke my heart a bit, but it's okay! that just mean i have to work harder to get to those concerts in japan. x'D
