*dusts off the pages*

Hello! I know, crazy, but it really is me. I've thought so many times about writing an entry, and then I look at how little I've written in the past year and more, and see how few people seem to actually be posting and reading as we once did, and I psych myself out of it. But it only gets harder the longer I wait, so I figured I had to start ( Read more... )

Hey you! Long time no see!

Oh man, Kate Griffin's Matthew Swift books are SO AMAZING. *It makes me sad that they don't get the recognition that other urban fantasy series do, although I suspect it's because they don't follow the usual rules of big city urban fantasy. Her world is about the only one I've read that actually makes me believe a city can be an inherently magical place.

RIGHT? They're absolutely amazing. I've never been big into urban fantasy, but as you say - I think that's because, as in the book I'm reading right now, actually - "urban" fantasy often starts in the present and then suddenly what makes it fantasy is that people are running around in medieval garb using thee and thou. Kate Griffin does it right. She opens up all of the possibilities that are already there for me to look at in a different way, and I love that.

Yes! There's that one point in one of them where it's all about the magic that comes from garbage and garbage collectors, and I remember thinking, holy shit, the kind of imagination it takes to look at something so *obvious* and so ingrained in city life and make it magical... I just love the way her mind works, digging magical ideas out of all the gritty little corners that are too boring or mundane for everybody else to notice.

I completely agree. The London Underground ticket ward is something that sticks in my mind all the time as just being so obvious and so incredible. And the magic of the different types of people in big cities, and the deities/spirits that grow out of them, like The Bag Lady and The Beggar King, just blow my mind.

Hi, you! So glad to see a post from you! And glad that you are writing and finding a creative outlet that way.

I think about you and KC all the time. Wish we were working together again. Someday, I am sure it will happen.

Toi Toi Toi on that Flute production. I've seen pictures and heard stories.

xoxo

Hi you, I miss you!!! Are you writing? What are you up to? How are your creative outlets? :-)

Ugh, I wish you were there too! Our favourite yoga-practicing AD is coming back for Flute, I wish I could have both of you!! But yes, we shall absolutely work together again one day. You know where to find me if you ever need a stage manager. <3

Oh godddd, this Flute. I'm sure I will be able to add to your stories. *g*

Miss you!

IKR? I looked back at my journal when I did my Yuletide letter and realised the last thing I'd put in it was over two years ago. It really doesn't feel like it's been that long though and it freaked me out a bit!

And I think you're bang on about the squee and the community aspect of having other people around to inspire you. It's not the same when you open your flist and it's just tumbleweed :(

Anyway <3 at you. Hope your work isn't driving you too crazy.

I know! Where does the time go?? I get so psyched out by lj now, it's ridiculous. /o\ But I shouldn't because awesome people like you are still here! I really do miss the community squee, though. :-( Where has everyone gone?

<3 at you too! I hope you're staying on top of everything over there, busy bee!

things keep on keeping on. :)

a family member had a serious car accident and is recouperating now, and possibly coming to live with us for a while.

kids are keeping on. firstborn being a real teenager, unsure of her everything, but intensely lovely nonethelss, middle child is completely involved in dance and all he wants to do is be in shows, youngest feels the same about playing tennis. somehow in there we also fit in everything else...

i'm sort of drifting - fandomwise. i find twitter extremely difficult to navigate in any meaningful way, and tumblr is great for pretty but not something i warm to as a means to really communicate with people. i read some teen wolf and avengers and any bandom that i can come across.

i'm catching up on tv shows that other people already watched. yay internet.

:)

thanks for asking. xo

Oh no, I hope things get better for your family member! Yay kids! They sound marvelous. :-)

I am the same with twitter and tumblr. Not my bag! I want the community interaction and all that. Get off my lawn, you crazy twitter fandom kids. :-P
