Chapter Three - Cookie Monster

"Su-jin's name will be Cookie Monster." [Jeremy] nodded decisively.
Mi-nam gave his bandmate a look. "Cookie Monster?" he repeated skeptically. "Really?"
"Why not? Cookie Monster is cute. And I like cookies." - "I'll Be Good For You," Ch. 5

"This looks very familiar," Moon Su-jin remarked as she followed her pretend boyfriend, Jeremy Maitland, into the kitchen. Then she stopped and surveyed the pile of ingredients and cooking equipment on the worktable. At the foot of the table sat Jeremy's beloved dog, Angelina Jolie, her tongue lolling out in a doggy smile of welcome. "Didn't you do this with Ha-neul in your video?"

She was right, and it was that video that gave Jeremy the idea that they could do a little baking; but he noticed that she didn't sound very impressed. "Yeah, but that was just pretend," he told her. "This is for real."

"We're not for real, either," she reminded him.

"Not yet," he said, gritting his teeth. Why did she have to bring that up and ruin the nice afternoon he had planned for them? "Do you want to do this or not?"

Su-jin shrugged. "Well, since you have everything ready...." she said, walking over to the table to pet Jolie and look over the baking supplies.

Jeremy glared at the back of her head for a moment. "You had better wash your hands before we start," he growled, stalking over to the sink to do just that.
To be fair to Jeremy, the baking session was not completely identical to the one in the A.N.JELL video. "We're making cookies, not cupcakes," he announced after they had both washed their hands and donned aprons to protect their clothes.

"Yes, ajumma," Su-jin giggled. She had grabbed the blue apron, leaving him stuck with the lavender.

He made a face at her, reminding himself that at least the apron wasn't pink, but otherwise didn't rise to the bait. "I like cookies because you can eat more of them at a time," he said instead.

She looked up from the recipe with a suspicious frown. "You're not trying to make me fat, are you?"

"What? No!" How did she come up with that? "I'm just saying that cookies are smaller than cupcakes. You don't have to eat a lot if you don't want to. Besides," he added, looking her over, "you're nowhere near fat."

Su-jin blushed and tugged on her apron, as if to keep him from looking too closely. "W-we had better get started if you want to eat these cookies today."

Jolie expressed her agreement with a loud bark. Obviously, she wanted to eat cookies, too.
As she had during the A.N.JELL video, Jolie insisted on overseeing Jeremy and Su-jin's preparations. She didn't have to work as hard, though, because instead of clowning around as he had with Ha-neul, Jeremy behaved himself this time. He pored over the recipe as though it held the secret to world peace, jumped to fetch ingredients and helped her stir in the rolled oats.

Su-jin frowned up at him from the circle of his arms. "Why don't you just do this yourself?"

"They won't be our cookies if I do all the work," he explained.

"At the same time, we don't have to do everything together. We're just getting into each other's way." She tried to let go of the wooden spoon.

His hand kept hers wrapped around the handle. "It got really hard to mix things together once we added the oatmeal and stuff," Jeremy said in what he hoped was a reasonable tone. "You said girls are strong, didn't you? That means you have to help me."

Color flooded her cheeks and her fingers fluttered beneath his like trapped birds. "You're just making up excuses to get close to me," she accused.

He blushed, too. As much as he wanted to deny it, it was wrong to tell a lie. "Uh... there is that, too," he admitted.

"Ugh, Jeremy!" Su-jin wrested her hand and the spoon from his grip, and stepped out of his embrace. "Isn't this a little cheesy?"

"It would have been cheesier if we had done something totally ordinary, like watch a movie, and I tried to hold your hand in the popcorn," he defended himself.

"I see you thought about that, too."

"Yeah, but this is more original, isn't it?"

"There's something to be said about a more direct approach," she told him, turning away to fetch the chocolate chips that they were going to add to half of the cookie dough. (Some of the cookies were going to just be plain oatmeal so that Jolie could have some; chocolate was not good for dogs.)

Unfortunately, Jolie moved at the same time that she did and bumped rather heavily against her legs. Knocked off-balance, Su-jin toppled over with a squeal and would have fallen all the way to the now rather messy floor if Jeremy hadn't caught her. "Are you OK?" he asked.

Recovering from her surprise, she nodded. "I tripped over Jolie."

He adjusted his hold to make sure that he wouldn't drop her, realized that she was cradled in his arms like they were dancing the tango, and smiled crookedly. "Shucks, I thought you were just trying to get close to me."

Her eyes narrowed and she waved the spoon in his face. "Don't make me hit you."

oc, you're beautiful
