Me: Hi, I just wanted to confirm if you’ll be open at midnight for Starcraft II sales?

Best Buy drone: Yes we will.

Me: Cool... is there already a line forming or anything?

Best Buy drone: Yeah, people are lining up.

Me: hmmm... well, do we need to stand in line, or can I show up at like 12:15 or whatever, after the line has moved through, and still ( Read more... )

You kind of talked down to this person. Obviously you do not have a high opinion of anyone in a retail/service related position, as seen with your movie theater post. I refrained from commenting on that but personally if someone spoke to me the way you spoke to that person, you would have had the bag of popcorn thrown in your face instead of eye-rolling and sighing. "How's that popcorn coming?" It's belittling. It's a shit job to begin with but at least that "drone" is out there trying to make dollar. Now in your defense, they got your order wrong, it's an easy mistake. It's their job to get it right, yes, but it's your job as a consumer to exhibit some patience and realize mistakes DO happen. And calling them an idiot? That's just rude ( ... )

Not everyone in the service industry is a drone... far from it. It takes special effort to deserve that title. Most of the people who give me goods in exchange for my money do so with little to no problem... it's just the ones who take something simple and screw it all up that earn my ire ( ... )

I like buttering my own popcorn. It means I don't get too much and I don't get too little. I also get to check if the butter is rancid or not before buttering.

There is a fine line between "customer service person" who should be treated like a decent person who's trying to do a job with tools they don't have, but at least they ARE trying....

And "customer service drone" who just doesn't give a flying fuck about whether or not they're actually providing any SERVICE. They're warming a desk and collecting a paycheck. Helping the customer is taking them away from their text messaging to friends.

The first should be treated with all politeness. They ARE trying.

The second should be complained about. Sounds like this guy was the second type.

Note: I have worked in customer service for over a decade. Been there, done that, got the t-shirt AND the duffel bag AND the lanyard AND the mug...I know whereof I speak.
