NOTICE TO RESIDENTS AND NEW ARRIVALS
WELCOME TO DEMELEIER
This document is here to provide explanation and information to newcomers and residents alike as to the nature of this place, and the details of survival that must be taken into account.
Primarily, a warning: despite the placid appearance of this place, caution must be exercised at all times. It is incredibly dangerous to be alone, even when in the streets of the village itself, regardless of an individual‘s abilities.
Pay heed to the communication device. This piece of equipment will allow you access to a network limited to this place. Residents frequently use this network to speak to one another.
There are options of audio, video and text available. Channels may be encrypted for private conversation, but it can prove unreliable.
The next detail to be taken into immediate account is the crown of rowan that you woke up with. It is of great importance, as its effects repel many of the dangers of Demeleier. Wear it or keep it on your person at all times, and take care to keep it undamaged.
Upon your arrival in Demeleier, you should make your way to the village proper immediately. Follow the track leading from the temple. If you require assistance, do not hesitate to request it. The inn, one of the larger buildings, can likely provide a roof until you are better settled.

GENERAL & THE FAE
Our purpose here is still something we are predominantly unaware of, and we have no concrete explanation for it. People leave as randomly as they appear, and may be trapped here for any period of time. Some of our residents have been here for years, others leave after only few days. In regards to escape, it appears there is no way to do so that we currently possess, and even if there were, we would be pulled back instantly by the forces that keep us here. Travel in any direction from the village inevitably brings one back to where they started. Residents have attempted leaving on foot, by flying, and by teleporting - all efforts have been failures.
Demeleier holds a varied range of people from different cultures, positions, and even worlds. There is no perceivable pattern to it and all of us are being kept here in the same way.
However, we are not alone. Demeleier is a place frequented by fae. Many of us find this idea a strange one, considering the usual manner in which they are depicted, but they are to be treated with great caution - some may only be mischievous, but others are incredibly dangerous. It is often necessary to fight against them for our own protection, and for the most part, the fae are to be considered our enemy.
As far as defense against them is concerned two things have been made clear as useful against them: the first is the Rowan Tree, its bark, leaves and berries hold some kind of power against the forces of the fae. It is presumed, though unconfirmed, that these trees can be found in the woodland surrounding us.
Iron has also been revealed to be of great value in defense against the fae. Steel is, strangely, not at all effective in comparison. All residents are to be given one link of iron to keep on their person. New arrivals, or those without, should contact Aureln Dawnstrike or visit the forge as soon as possible in order to acquire one.
The fair folk are many, and grossly outnumber us. Their abilities and forms are incredibly varied: be wary of anything that does not seem quite right. What information we have is limited, as are our defenses. Keep iron and rowan with you at all times, but do not assume that they are foolproof.
Additionally, note that not all fae are hostile. Some have provided us with valuable aid.
To find more information on specific fae, or images to identify them, please refer to the bestiary located in the Town Hall.
There are also two other beings who are an important presence in Demeleier.
One is the Guardian, who seems to control the temple and the mansion. In the past, he has generally offered us aid and assistance. However, we know little about him.
The other is the Fae Queen, the apparent leader of the faeries. Though she has also provided us with help in a number of ways, she has also caused harm to our residents, directly and indirectly, and has been responsible for a number of strange occurences.
At this point in time, it seems best to treat both with a great deal of caution.
Our situation is a dangerous one, with grievous harm - even death - being a very real threat. It should be noted that, in this land, it seems that some residents who die will return to life in the course of a few days. This does not happen every time, and should not allow the matter to be trivialised. The welfare of our fellow residents remains the most important thing.
RESIDENCY IN DEMELEIER
HERE is a list of residents that is being compiled. New residents should familiarise themselves with this list, to identify friends and allies and also to identify others in the same position as yourself. Addendums to this list are made by Schneizel el Britannia, and he should be contacted if additions or mistakes are noted.
For the purposes of safety in Demeleier, we have a Watch, a group of people who patrol the area and deal with threats - more information on this can be found
here. (Inquiries regarding the Watch should be made to Valeria or Souji Seta.) It is imperative that occurrences are documented regularly to help us monitor potential dangers.
Worth noting is the fact that Demeleier has no economy to speak of - there is no money in use here, and residents work together in order to ensure everyone is looked after and catered for. Food, clothing and aid can be acquired for free, but it is generally accepted that people will do what they can in return. Work currently in place is:
- The Watch - contact Valeria or Souji Seta
- Hunting, fishing, or gathering - contact Dante
- Cooking at the inn - contact Souji Seta or Dante
- Building or renovating - contact Lloyd Asplund
- Smithing or mining - contact Avari or Aureln
- The Infirmary - contact Takano Miyo
- The Welcoming Committee - contact Ryuga Asahi
Lodgings here are incredibly basic - they are based on one main room and are sparsely furnished. All buildings in Demeleier have been fortified with iron, which must be treated to avoid damage. Please note that we have no electricity or running water here.
ResourcesWood - when gathering wood, please limit yourself to trees marked with a leaf symbol in the bark. The fae of the forest are allowing us use of these trees, and taking from others could be seen as reason for hostility.
Metal/Minerals - miners have uncovered coal, copper and tin ore here, with smaller amounts of mithril. Gold and silver have also been uncovered. Iron has been found, both as ore and in bars, but this tends to be far rarer.
Food - Demeleier is full of wildlife, but to avoid over-hunting, scheduled parties are sent out. (Contact Dante for more information.) The orchard is full of different kinds of fruit, but be careful to avoid the fae that spend time there. We have a small number of greenhouses producing herbs and vegetables.
Fabric - stored in the Town Hall for tailors. We currently have no means of weaving our own.
Stock is often limited, particularly in winter. Please be mindful of how much you use.
LOCATIONS
Please familiarize yourself with the following maps:
the areathe villageCommunal buildings:Town Hall (TH) - a gathering place for times during which all residents must be counted together, as well as where the monthly Watch meetings are held. There are also records of stocks kept here, as well as a copy of the Watch rota, and the bestiary.
Inn/Stables (INN) - on the village square. Faeries generally avoid the building. Food is made throughout the day here for those who have not the means or desire to cook for themselves, and there are a small number of rooms should you wish to live here. All stock caught by the hunting party are brought here for storage and preparation. The stables are where our livestock are kept and tended to.
Note: There is a fae located here, under the stairs, known as Rawhead and Bloodybones. He appears only to children or young people, and insists upon going to bed if they are out of it past midnight. To avoid him attacking, you must have permission from an adult.
Infirmary (1-2) - maintained by Takano Miyo. If you are injured or wounded at any time, the infirmary is open to you. There is also a small stock of potions there with healing benefits, to be taken if necessary.
Bathhouse (B) - please note that facilities are shared and basic. The coals and water are tended to frequently.
Forge (F) - seems to repel most fae thanks to the iron stored there. It can be considered a safe area in times of need, but is also a working smithy.
Kirk - does not seem to be a reliable place to seek respite from the fair folk, unless recently consecrated and sanctified, an act which must be renewed fairly frequently. Currently, we have only one resident capable of doing so.
Temple - appears to be the ultimately safe place for the time being. Most new arrivals wake up on the tower steps. Whether the guardian is there or not, the building seems to repel the fae, and thus can be considered a sanctuary.
Mansion - a danger zone. All though there are things within that could be of use to us, namely books and materials, the dangers of the place are too great to risk unless it be a party of experienced people who take on exploration. Note: the mansion has been used by residents before without problems owing to the Guardian.
Terrain:Loch/River - many fae appear here and it is always best to be cautious when close by. The water teems with fish at all times of year. Fae also seem to avoid crossing running water. If you are being pursued in that area, try to head to the bridge.
There is a creature in the loch, as well as something identified as a snake or a worm - able to kill with breath alone - on the island out in the distance. Therefore, the island should be considered off limits unless approached by a group of able fighters, as the beast also carries a fatal venom to which we have little antidote.
Forest - also home to many of the fair folk, and are not to be entered alone by any means. If you intend to enter the forest, be aware that it is controlled by the fae. Paths can change, things can move, and it is very easy to get lost. In such an event, pay attention to the small, brightly coloured birds - they will lead you out.
There is also a rowan copse located in the woods, and this may be considered a sanctuary. However, its location seems to shift.
There are enticing lights there which you may feel inclined to follow. Please endeavour not to do so; residents have been known to become lost in the woods for days as a result of this. Wearing your rowan will greatly lessen such effects.
Mountains/Caves - treat with great caution. They are home to several large packs of violent ogres, who will attack unprovoked. This is, however, where the majority of our ore is to be found, and there are several mines there. If people seek to mine these or explore the area, it is imperative that they go in a group.
Graveyard/Crypts - both highly dangerous, the crypts especially. The majority of fae that frequent the graveyard seem to stay there, but all encountered so far have been hostile or quick to attack.
The crypts can only be accessed by solving a riddle and providing a trinket of gold. Access will then be granted. Valuable items have been found here, but once again, going alone is incredibly unwise.
Mist - surrounds the greater area of Demeleier and seems to be acting as a barrier. All attempts to find away through it result in being lead back into the village, often very disorientated. There have been instances of the mist drawing in more widely. It should be avoided as much as possible.
Please note: this information may be considered a constant work in progress, and will be subject to change and expansion as more is made clear to us. If you have a suggestion for an addition or addendum, or have further questions, please do not hesitate to contact Schneizel el Britannia.
Take close watch of yourselves and of each other.
