Alright. Today's the day I traditionally update my will. I didn't do so last year, because there were possibilities developing in the heir department that needed to resolve themselves. I didn't do so in 2011, for no good reason

Is there a music department in your local schools that could put the instruments to good use?
(I should get a will made myself. I don't have a lot, but like you I have no direct heirs. I'd hate to think of my family throwing my first printing Deities and Demigods (with Cthulhu) into a garage sale.)
Find charities who would be interested in such things, or in auctioning off items as a fundraiser? Give the books to a library?
I have a few friends who are on a list of potential recipients for my truck and trailer, otherwise I don't want to be too invested in what happens to my stuff when I'm beyond caring. I wonder what would happen to my copy of Childs Ballads though.
I would think an auction house or someone specializing in estate sales would actually be the best at getting all of the things that you hold dear into the hands of those who would put them to good use. They have the connections to advertise appropriately.
I think you could also specify who should be the recipient of any proceeds from an auction or estate sale, that way if you wanted someone with the last name of Mortika to receive something from you, even if it's not stuff, you would have options.
What about setting up a donation of your gaming supplies etc to a Con? They can then do an auction or something for either a charity of your choice or the Con itself?
For the music and instruments, is there a musical society, music library, or other public-good organization in this space where your stuff would actually be appreciated
