Direct debits

I've cancelled my contract with Orange for my monthly phone and got a pay-as-you-go one. Anyone know if I need to cancel the Direct debit or do I leave that in place for paying the top up fees?

Theoretically, you could leave it and Orange would be a good company and not wtake a monthly payment that they weren't entitled to and then not return it for a year. In practise, I would never trust anyone with a DD when they no longer need one. There is nothing to stop you using a debit card to pay for your top-ups

Orange are famous for being a bit crap about overcharging for a few months. Cancel the DD and use your card to settle any outstanding!

Don't forget - the DD guarantee means that if Orange take anything they're not owed, you can go through your bank to get it refunded within a couple of weeks. This actually works.
