Here's an interesting pair of questions, nicked from janegalt.net:

1. Back when you were younger and first getting into SF, did you prefer Isaac Asimov or Robert Heinlein?

2. Would you describe yourself nowadays as more of a liberal or conservative?

Jane posits that the answers to these questions might be quite strongly correlated. I'd be ( Read more... )

Actually, I inhaled as much of both as I could manage. I re-read Asimov more often, but I enjoy specific Heinlein books more. As to whom I have more of on the bookcase ... they both take a shelf and a bit each.

I'm liberal, all the way :)

I liked Asimov more, but still read a lot of Heinlein. Except that reading Heinlein now often makes me wince, whereas I think that Asimov has aged better.
I tend towards liberal with the odd conservative view here and there.

Ah, that's it exactly.

So same here.

I own more Heinlein, but thats just due to reading more Asimov from the library whereas having to buy the Heinlein's :)

1. Asimov hugely when I was first into sf, he got taken over by Heinlein when I found him.

2. Subversive. (QED)

Mainly because I got into Moorcock who superseded those two in a big way.

Interesting question though. I suspect Jane has something there.

Remember, we're not talking about which author you prefer now. It's which one you preferred then.

And so far our theory is five-and-a-half for six (I'm counting Deb as a half, since she won't come down off the fence!)

Then, overall, I preferred Heinlein. I would go on huge reading jags where I'd re-read nothing but Heinlein for months. Asimov tended more towards a book here, a book there.

Heinlein by an enormous ratio- only asimov i read was the first 3 foundation books whereas I owned ALL the heinlein- supplemented by STEALING COPIES FROM THE LIBRARY when I couldn't afford them.
[don't worry I gave them back later]

and I'm a liberal socialist feminist type person and was while reading and enjoying the heinlein enormously.

So i have no idea what's up with that.
