Don't plant garlic in the garden - make something like a flower bed (just raised/tilled earth) somewhere nearby, plant your garlic, and let it take it over. Some of the varieties of garlic are self pollinating and will easily take over a bed. This way, you're always assured of garlic! It's what my grandmother used to do - she had a dedicated garlic bed near her kitchen garden for years - when she was picking the beans or greens or whatever for supper she'd pull up a head of garlic if she'd used the last one already.
I'm envious. You really can't safely plant *anything* here because of the massive amount of lead in the soil. Well, if I were going to be here for years I could - apparently you plant lots of sunflowers and they pull the heavy metals out of the soil. You just have to dispose of the plants - I don't think it'd be a good idea to till them back in. ;)
Ahh, ok, that's good to know. Well, maybe when/if jimmy gets the tiller, I'll do that then. I wasn't to worried about it, but thought it'd be nice to have some garlic available whenever sorta deal.
Ugg, that sucks. Well, when ya come up here next time, I'll be sure to have some available for ya(with prior notice and provided your coming here occurs when they are actually producing....)
