/me offers many pettings.

I'm guessing that the move will definitely help you feel reenergized :)

From what I've seen the PhD process is in general very very rough on people and forces just about everyone to go through periods of deep introspection and self-doubt.

You've put into words a feeling that I've experienced many times in my life. The world likes to put bright young people on a pedestal and then do everything possible to knock them down from it, it seems. I hope you are able to find happiness and meaning in your new life; moving to another country is a huge (and definitely exciting) change.

I know what you mean, very much so. I'm struggling with the same feelings in Hyde Park. And that's what it feels like inside: dying. Like disconnecting and fading away from anything meaningful. Or at least that's how I feel. I'm sorry that you feel a similar way. Are you and Robert moving to the UK? When do y'all go and where? This is M. Toups by the way. I hope things get better for you!
