Well really Blake it's certainly a disappointment if Pope doesn't attend, but impossible? Honestly. Though I should hope it would be impossible without me.

Your absence will be noted, and you shall be missed, Alex. Though I hope you at least intend to go to the Valentine's Dance. I promise I won't try to make you dance with anyone, but it would be quite the scandal if people start refusing to attend social events I've organized. Please spare my feelings and agree to attend one or the other.

It would be lovely to write a column for you, but I'd have to discuss the idea with you first, of course.
