Before they are hanged

Typing in standing position: I forgotten to tell you about "Before they are Hanged", the second book in the "The First Law" series by Joe Abercrombie. I am almost through with this book (it must have been a hefty volume because it took me some time to listen through it), and I have a new addition in the list of the fictional characters I love but ( Read more... )

I adore this trilogy and am so glad I was finally able to read "Best Served Cold".

And I like Glokta a lot, too, I mean, who couldn't?? *gg*
I hope I can read "Heroes" very soon and "Red Country" sounds really promising.

I intend to read the other books too, after I finish trilogy , unfortunately the two Best Served Cold and The Heros don't seem to have Logen or Glokta in them, and these are my favourites overall.

Logen is so loveable and some of his sayings found their way into my speech : "You have to be realistic about these things", but overall (as you noticed :D) Glokta is the cherry on this cake for me - his character is something I haven't seem anywhere before, pure excellence.

Oh, and I love Farro too, and Ardee, and the old scheming Bayaz.

I missed them a bit (I LOVE Farro), but only for a short while, because at least in "Best Served Cold" it wouldn't have made any sense for most of them to appear. There are some references to characters from the trilogy and there are some minor or major cameos of secondary characters, but it works perfectly well.

I fell in love with Farro totally unexpectedly. When she appeared first, much later than the rest of the main characters, I kept wanting to skip her chapters at first (she was away from all the action at first), but after she joined the happy group - wow! I was smitten. Notice how she is the only one who stands up to Bayaz.

I just ordered the first book from the library! It looks quite interesting.

Oh, I hope you like it. I thought the writing style (Abercrombie seems to like to make fun of everything and at the same time touches on some very dark things) was the main appeal of the books for me, and the characters. :D

I think I might like Best Served Cold too, it sounds like all that interesting stuff that hasn't made it into the trilogy is going to be happening there - all that stuff about Styria.

As to The Heroes - I am less sure. The North without Logen will not be the same for me, and I am less interested about Northern events even in The First Law trilogy (I like them but they aren't as exciting so far as the siege of Dagoska, for example) . Disclaimer: I am just rambling about The Heroes, considering should I listen the rest of Abercrombie books after I finish the trilogy, or should I read something else for a break..
