Sherlock Series 3

Jan 16, 2014 00:34

I will try and make this my last statement on Sherlock and then move on... (hah!)   I'm sick to death of hearing certain parts of fandom screaming and throwing their rattles out of the pram and crying entitled tears of 'but this is not what I wanted therefore it is crap!' Okay, I'm being a bit over dramatic but geez, you should read some of the ( Read more... )

I'm in between: I thought some things were silly and a bit 'Really?', but on the whole it was tremendously entertaining and some things were very clever while more were beautifully touching. It was very much the most emotionally rounded series!

I occasionally went 'Really?" but it didn't in any way spoil my enjoyment of the series as a whole. And yes, to the emotionally rounded - it most certainly was. :-)

I've been deeply frustrated by similar reviews, even though I'm not really in the fandom. They don't like it, that's fair enough, but the insults to the writers, and to the people who do like it - i.e. pretty much all of my real-life fannish friends, and people from work, do get a bit much.

It does (the insults) and they are so damn patronising. If I don't like an episode in a TV series I give it another go and if I still don't like it I stop watching. I don't blame the writers for not giving me what I want. I just assume that we have very different taste and and go and find something more to my liking. I do understand that if you are emotionally invested in characters it's difficult (been there, done that), but then you try and find what you did enjoy or move on.

I'm not in the fandom so have seen nothing of these comments only heard snippets about them from people like yourself. I just watch the show because it's good TV and personally I thought all 3 eps were bloomin' brilliant. :-)

Me too. :-) The fandom has a lot going for it, but like many fandoms it has people who can't sit back and enjoy what they are given, imperfections and all, but demand that the writers should write exactly what they want to see (or so it appears to me!)

I agree. One person in my reading circle decided she wasn't going to watch any more after the 2nd ep of this season. I really don't understand why she doesn't like it, but at least I haven't seen the reviews you have.

I love it and would watch a lot more than they're ever going to give us.

Me too, it is the most entertaining and intelligent TV I have seen for a long time.

I personally thought the second ep was stunning and so clever, but some people who went in expecting John and Sherlock to be back fighting crime and solving things which while it has its appeal would not have been either new, innovative or shown us Sherlock's development. I guess some people just don't like character driven TV. I so do!
