The Hobbit Trilogy - a reflection

I've now seen all three films that make up the Hobbit trilogy. After some reflection, I'd have to say that the last one was my least favourite. That may be because battles, on the whole, bore me, they certainly did in the Lord of the Rings. It may also be because my absolutely favourite character was far better used in the first two films, which is ( Read more... )

the hobbit

Ooh - I am jealous again! *g* I'm looking forward to the film, even though I know it's not going to be properly the hobbit cos of Legolas and Tauriel and Kili (much as I like Aiden Turner as an actor in general). I agree with you totally about the scene at Bilbo's house and what people were moaning about - I couldn't see it at all, I thought it was perfectly done (and properly in the spirit of the books, too). I shall look forward to spotting Billy Connolly too, I didn't know he was in it (not been watching the pre-stuff)! I shall have to find my local cinema... *g*

'and properly in the spirit of the books, too' EXACTLY! :-)

Do enjoy it, despite my grumbles and my ordering, it needs to be seen to complete the journey, and there are some lovely little pieces in it - usually involving Bilbo. :-)

I totally agree. I said elsewhere that this one was the weakest of the three and lacked the character development and humour of the other two. Plus NOT ENOUGH BILBO! Nowhere near enough. :-(

The first is my favourite and yes, you need its pace to get to know the characters. So for me, it's 1, 2, 3 in that order.

Everything could be improved with more Bilbo. :-)

I'm glad I saw the last one but I'll not be in any hurry to see it again and I'm rather flummoxed by those critics that gave it 5/5 and said it was the best of the trilogy. What do they watch for I wonder, certainly not character development or, as you mentioned, humour.

The actress who played Tauriel is a HUGE fan of The Hobbit/LOTR and agreed to be in the movie on the understanding that she wouldn't be in a love triangle.

She wasn't in the first script and then they added a bunch of stuff in re-shoots, sigh.

But I'm glad she was there or it would have been a total sausage fest.

Well it wasn't a love triangle but it was boring.

Plus not enough Bilbo! That can't be said enough!

It was, Legolas/Tauriel/Pretty Dwarf.

Yes!

The films were fun, but not as good as LOTR.

Kili :-) ooops, yes forgot that!

I preferred them to LOTR, probably because of Martin Freeman's Bilbo, not that I'm in anyway biased of course. :-)
