I've now seen all three films that make up the Hobbit trilogy. After some reflection, I'd have to say that the last one was my least favourite. That may be because battles, on the whole, bore me, they certainly did in the Lord of the Rings. Do enjoy it, despite my grumbles and my ordering, it needs to be seen to complete the journey, and there are some lovely little pieces in it - usually involving Bilbo. :-)

The first is my favourite and yes, you need its pace to get to know the characters. So for me, it's 1, 2, 3 in that order.

I'm glad I saw the last one but I'll not be in any hurry to see it again and I'm rather flummoxed by those critics that gave it 5/5 and said it was the best of the trilogy. What do they watch for I wonder, certainly not character development or, as you mentioned, humour.

She wasn't in the first script and then they added a bunch of stuff in re-shoots, sigh.
But I'm glad she was there or it would have been a total sausage fest.

I preferred them to LOTR, probably because of Martin Freeman's Bilbo, not that I'm in anyway biased of course. :-)
