1. Lykke Li, "Get Some" - continuing my obssession with Swedish pop and songs with slightly inappropriate lyrics. The beat of this song is really what kills, though. It's sort of big band/swing driving behind this dance-y pop song. Very cool.

I have determined that what I really loved this year were shamelessly upbeat pop songs with lots of electronic sound. In past years I've leaned heavily to the folk/alt/country/rock side of the spectrum, but this year I just wanted to bop my head and grin. Raveonettes, Heart of Stone

I know nothing about the Raveonettes, but I heard this song on a myboytheriotgirl podcast a couple months ago and fell in love with the twangy guitar riff that runs through the whole song, as well as the airy, swoopy vocals. We picked up Neko’s new CD on the basis of listening to the promos on iTunes and loving her voice from her work with the New Pornographers. It is, in a word, gorgeous. The annoying: Grandma still in hospital. She obviously needed to be there, as in the first 24 hours she lost 9 POUNDS of fluid that had built up in her lower body. I cannot imagine what a relief that must be. We went to visit her on Saturday evening and she was in pretty good spirits.
