My best friend's mother-in-law is in the hospital, in the trauma center. Her aorta ruptured and was bleeding out into her heart lining. That, in itself is bad enough. And having to watch your husband and daughter in pain, is terrible. But what this entry is about is that her mother-in-law laid in the ER for four hours, getting no real care, ( Read more... )

It's called a CT Scan (no A), sentances should never start with "And", should be "severly high blood pressure", and while the whole incident sounds really horrid, it leaves me to wonder if they were insured or not.

If your command of the English language is so superior to ours, perhaps you'd care to to explain why you can't spell "sentence," or punctuate properly around quotation marks? And it's NOT improper grammar to begin a sentence with "And," whatever your high school teacher tried to tell you. Some authorities suggest that it's a stylistic mistake, but it's technically good grammar.

On a more significant note, medical disregard of women is common regardless of insurance status, and human dignity isn't something you buy by paying an HMO.

When I was ten I had appendicitis. The [male] doctor sent me home and said that I must just be getting my period. Everyone else, including the nurses, said that it sounded exactly like appendicitis. When it became obvious that I wasn't getting any better my mother took me to the hospital. I would have died within a few hours, I now have two huge surgical scars instead of one, and they had to remove all of my intestines and clean them off and put them back in. And I was lucky. So I can really relate to this story, and it makes me very sad. I am so sorry that this happened.
