[ The video feed turns on to show one (1) Professor Xavier, sitting at the small cafe that he's adopted in his time in Aliunde. Compared to the last time most saw him, he looks more anxious than happy. The idea of this city that they had no idea about doesn't sit too well with him. At all. ]For those of you who are preparing to go to this new found ( Read more... )

You know, I've been meaning to ask, can you boost your psychic voodoo with tech in any way?

It's not "psychic voodoo", Anthony, but yes. I used a device back home until it was destroyed.

[Rolling his eyes because it's totally psychic voodoo.] How'd it work?

It read the pathways of my mind and amplified my mutation. Hank would have to give you the specifics.

Hank? [Tony doesn't remember meeting a Hank, but he doesn't pay attention to half the people here anyway.] Hm, neuroscience isn't my forte, but I wonder if I could...

[He leans over and starts typing on a keyboard next to him, going through old notes and project ideas. There's gotta be a way to achieve the same effect using his particular skill set..]

He was one of my teammates back home. The one who created the technology we used. [ From planes to the suits. That aren't bulletproof. ]

I suppose if I were to ask why you asked, you would tell me to read your thoughts.

Ah. So no help here then. [Boo Charles who cares about your friends back home.]

What? [No, really, what? Why would Tony tell Charles to read his thoughts. That's the farthest thing away from what Tony wants.] No, if you asked I would tell you. It's what normal people do.

I'm afraid not. [ He does okay, shush. ]

Or at least make some comment about me being able to know all the answers by reading minds. [ Charles chuckles lightly. ] Then, my friend, why do you ask?

I wouldn't want your communication skills getting rusty. [He grins and shrugs.] You said before your telepathy has a limited range, right? So if this new city's too far away, your powers would be pretty useless from back here.

[He's back to typing away at the keyboard.] But if all I've gotta do is build something that can amplify your brainwaves... [He turns the camera towards the computer screen. It's mostly just a lot of numbers and gibberish to regular people, but to Tony it's the coding for a prototype amplifying machine.] Voila.

And I should thank you for that. [ Charles grins. ] I have the feeling that it will be too far out of my range. If need be, then I can sit at the teleporter inside this new city and direct that way.

[ Despite being elsewhere, Charles leans forward in interest. ] I assume that means you've found a rather easy way of doing so.

No guarantees, but it wouldn't hurt to try, yeah? I'll check and see if I have all the necessary parts, and if so I can probably get it done by tomorrow. [It'll be kind of shitty, but it should at least work while Tony takes a break before working on improving it. Especially since to get it done by tomorrow means no sleep til then. Not that pulling an all-nighter is anything new. If fact, Tony welcomes the chance to have an excuse to stay up all night. It's been a rough couple of days...]

I get the feeling you'll be at the junk yard all day again. [ He says it jokingly. Then he frowns. ] Is there something on your mind, Anthony?

ironfail April 24 2012, 07:22:53 UTC
I'll get Thor to do it, it'll be quicker. [He's only partially joking. If Thor's available he's totally making him do it. Tony's about to say something else but freezes at Charles's question, staring awkwardly at the screen for a moment.] Besides figuring out your brain broadcast machine? Not much.

[He's not going to ask what brought up that question, because that would imply he actually did have something on his mind and that Charles was picking it up, which Tony really didn't want to think about. So of course he was thinking about it and Charles probably could hear it and god this was just a vicious cycle, shut the fuck up, Stark, better safe than sorry.]

I can only imagine what you and him would be like in a junk yard. [ ...No, he really can't. Unless Thor finds a toaster or something that entertains him for quite a time. ] You're certain of that.

[ It's more his way of acknowledging something is on Tony's mind and not pushing it. Tony told him to stay out of his head, after all. ]

[Tony's silent, pointedly not looking at his phone. Instead he's playing with the numbers on his computer as he debates pushing this conversation any further. Honestly, he'd like nothing more than to cut this convo here, but if Charles didn't already know what was on his mind Tony'd eat his metaphorical hat. Iron Man helmet? Whatever. He takes a deep breath and goes for it.]

Do you...pick up dreams too.

Only if you're projecting them out. [ Charles raises his eyebrow slightly. ]
