Is it just me?

Is it just me, or has David Hewlett gone batshit crazy? His IMDB page lists some pretty sketchy stuff since SGA, but I remember thinking we all thought he was a great actor, really fun, we wanted to meet him or sleep with him or think about his ass all night long. And now, he's talking and doing thes selfie-vids, but I just can't listen because it' ( Read more... )

Much as I loved David Hewlett in SGA, and tracked down much of his pre-SGA Canadian opus (oh, Treed Murray), my belief in him as an actor that did not have his head firmly up his ass pretty much ended with Dog's Breakfast, which I had an allergic reaction to at the time. He's on my list of uncomfortably don't make eye contact with at a con. Not as high as Kevin Sorbo, but on the list.

I have not read the Outlander books, but my interest in them completely died when I read some of the cray cray things Diana Gabaldon has said. I'm glad people are liking the series and all, but I don't think I will be patronizing any of her products.

RIGHT? Yes, a Dog's Breakfast was... a dog's breakfast. Haha, read your review and oh yes, indeed. We all felt so traitorous by not liking it. It sort of just fell off the fannish radar.

You watched WAY MORE David Hewlett movies than I did. Wow. But yes, he might have had good writing/directing, and in SGA, clearly had a good team, cast and support. In fact, his popularity in SGA might have helped create this monster. Now that I think about it.

Diana Gablydewhatsherface seems another one completely up her own ass. I had heard vaguely something about her hating fanfic or suchlike a while back, (despite writing it), but when I went to look up more about Outlander I was like "oh hells no."

The first Outlander book was a freebie on my ereader, so I read it. I am not ashamed to say that I was completely obsessed with that book while I was reading it. But I have zero interest in continuing the series, either in book or tv form.

Hewlett, whatever. SGA was my last immersive fandom, and now I just can't with any of them. I even broke up with my tv crush Kate Hewlett because of her lectures on veganism. (But I still have my DVDs.)

...okay. Just watched the 'intro' vid on the Hewlett's channel and... embarrassement squick. Oh, dear.

Don't love the characters on The Strain, but the changes they're ringing on the Dracula mythos interest me.

And Sean Bean is still pretty compelling to me, though the episodes have been piling up on the vcr because M "might" be interested in watching it, so I'm saying this having watched only one episode.

However, all I really care about is that Sleepy Hollow will soon be back . . .

Sean Bean, I know. But it's kind of trite. I'm disappointed. I think it's just that I'm well over the angsty manpain of doom (ex-wife, estranged child, overworked at his demanding job, see The Strain and every other protag ever in the history of ever).

Sleepy Hollow has the angsty manpain of doom (lost wife, lost child, trapped in time!) and yet, I don't care because who can care about the manpain with this kind of awesome crack candy? :)

I miss the NBC Dracula, don't you?

Listening to actors off-script: so often a cause of heartache that I just DON'T any more.

Mere words cannot express how little I'm looking forward to American!Broadchurch. Why, Lord, why?

Yes -- I thought I was supporting DH's career but then... NO. Better to re-watch SGA which I actually wouldn't do, but that would be far and away a better option.

NOOOOO US BROADCHURCH NOOOOOO.

You have more courage than I to watch Hewlett's selfies-vids! Like you, Dog's Breakfast pretty much put me off him, sadly, because he was brilliant in SGA, particularly so given the dreadful material he had to work with. Alas, alas, I miss those days.

I read a lot of the Outlander series and in fact quite enjoyed the first couple of books, but then it was just repetitive and boring and THEN she said those awful things about her fans and fanfiction and NOPE. I don't care how great the reviews, or even know if they are great, but I will not watch (or read) Outlander. Bah to you, Diana!

It wasn't courage, mostly it just popped up on my YouTube feed and I was bored. But what an eye-opener. He WAS great in SGA, and in other things prior, but what the hell happened?

I am glad you are boycotting Outlander. I think dissing your fans is the ultimate writer/actor/whomever faux pas. We only have the power of the off-switch and our tiny dollar. I don't care if you're a jerk, just keep it to yourself!
