Oh, what a family dinner! The food sounded great - the company not so much. I had forgotten about the Black tapestry where all of those great names came from. And speaking of great names - loved the magical bands! It's details like that that make fan fic. so much fun. I also like how you make the Blacks believable - Sirius's mother wasn't foaming at the mouth and the well-bred prejudice was too chillingly familiar.
I imagine that there were quite a few 'interesting' family dinners at No 12, especially as Sirius grew older. And I don't think Walburga was foaming at the mouth except in her later years; rather, I see her as stern and demanding, proud that she had been the one to have sons, and therefore with enormous expectations for her elder son as the future head of the family. Which would have been hammered into him from an early age. No wonder Sirius rebelled!
This gave me a smile last night before bed. I love the idea of the huge hullabaloo and letter campaign that the Blacks put into getting Sirius switched to the 'right' house, Uncle Alphard's appearance, the bands, and Sirius's attempted trump card of "James POTTER". Glad to see a story from you!

This year we're meeting youngest sis-in-law's partener's family. Could be interesting. But, I hasten to add, they're not pure-bloods by any means.
