Although many would challenge this, I consider parents as people first, then a parent.

you've just gotta step back, and really consider that they are just regular people, who happen to have children. They've never really done this whole thing before, so expect that theyre not perfect.

Relate to them as people first.

it's hard to think of them as simply people, because they are people i really care about. they are the only people in the world who would do anything for me. it's hard to be so nonchalant and to pretend i dont' care what they think.
