OK - I just have to get this out because I think I’m the reasonable one, but maybe I’m really overreacting. I don’t want to be the kind of person that pushes my parenting views on someone else, but I’m having a lot of issues with this one.
I have a friend on FB who I have never met, her boyfriend is an acquaintance and our kids are the same age as ( Read more... )

Thanks for the compliment, but I don't deserve it. I'm far from the perfect mom, I know that, everyday I look in the mirror and say "ok, you didn't give enough attention/you were too short/too critical/too self-critical in front of her..." and try to remind myself to be better for her ( ... )

Is it the norm? You bet your butt. Should it be? No.

It's easy enough to open a can of beans, drain them, and put them on a plate. Also, cutting up an apple? Super easy (not to mention you can buy them cut up these days anyways. Even using no-sugar added canned fruit is healthier than over-processed pasta dishes and soups.

Thank you BTW for the bean idea, we've been searching for more varieties of food that are healthy and finger-friendly. And B & Boo were ALL over them. :) yay for happy kids!

You're welcome. I switch up which beans I give her sometimes, to help keep it interesting, but they're SO darn easy to just open, drain, rinse, and keep in a tupperware. It's pretty much no prep for a finger food with protein, fiber, and lots of minerals. :)

I'm stunned she thinks she'll be able to get him to eat healthy when he's in high school! Why not get him used to healthy food now? I know I don't have children but the way I grew up is you eat what's put in front of you, you don't, you're hungry, you'll eat it then...It drives me crazy when parents make one meal for themselves and a "kid friendly" one for the child... what's wrong with what the parents eat as the "kf" one is usually spaghetti-o's which regardless of how many servings of veg they claim are in their isn't healthy...Oh my god, let me shut up because I'm now irked by the stay at home factor and not being able to make food for child nor have room in freezer, knowing what you and D do for B. I think I'd have to bite my tongue, shake my head and walk away....let me stop talking now but for the record, I'm with you.

My goal is to raise a happy, well adjusted, contributing member of society. If we give her everything she needs, and teach her to get the things she wants, every opportunity can be hers. I hate the idea of setting a child up to fail in any aspect of life because you are too lazy to show them the right way. :(

Yeah, I totally get what you are doing for B, it's sometimes tiring and hard, but will be so worth it in the end.

I can haz pancakes? arc_stormcrow February 11 2011, 04:47:42 UTC
Honestly, I'm surprised you haven't filtered her or something yet. She's driving us both batty.

And it's not like it's *that* hard to eat healthy. Some steamed veggies, some multi-grain bread, lean meats, and viola. Spare the salt, and most anything we eat can be converted with a minimum of fuss. She's just too damned lazy to put in the work.
