It's based partly in the French film "Martyrs" which is about using torture to enforce spiritual enlightenment, although they don't kill their subjects because otherwise they wouldn't be able to report back on what they say, and an interview with one of the actors in a slasher movie ("The Loved Ones") who said that if his character didn't have his daughter, he'd be a straightforward serial killer because he enjoyed watching that moment of death.

If you've seen both those films, then it's actually a pretty obvious entry!

Oh, boy. Creepy, disturbing (really disturbing), and yet it utterly fits the prompt and the characters are all-too-believable.

I wish we could say such people don't exist, but we know better.

The twist at the end was a nice surprise, too.
