It wasn’t unusual for Ruth to come home to a prayer meeting, so when she went into the front room, she wasn’t surprised to be met by Father Bryan and members of his congregation.  Ever since her mother had joined the Church of Eternal Kindness, their home was a regular venue for the Church to do its good work saving sinners, even if those sinners ( Read more... )

Enjoyed! Read like a modern day witch hunt all in the name of religion.
Shame on Rachael for throwing her friend under the bus!

Although Rachel did something terrible, there's a part of me that can't blame her after a lifetime of living with her father. I suspect that Ruth will find a way out regardless and then who knows what will happen?

Stories like this almost make me want to not say that I'm affiliated with a church, because I'm afraid that this is what people will picture. (Thankfully, people like Father Bryan are very much the exception.)

As far as I'm concerned, just because someone calls what they're doing a church doesn't make it so - this sort of thing smacks of cult to me. I'd never assume that someone who is a churchgoer condoned or participated in this kind of behaviour - and this is very much the exception, thank goodness.

this is good... there are so many characters that I Do Not Like. Grrrrrrrrrrrr.

I hope that Ruth gets the freedom (and happiness) she deserves.

I'm sure she will eventually - you don't beat the desire for freedom out of someone. You just make it stronger.

Thanks. I knew I wanted to write about exorcism as soon as I saw the prompt, but I sat on it for a day or so and this is what came out.

Oh wow. Thank you. I'm glad it meets with your approval! I decided on the exorcism angle pretty early on but I let it marinade for a bit and ended up with this.
