Open Your Eyes - They're Everywhere

“If the doors of perception were cleansed, then everything would appear to man as it is - infinite.”  William Blake’s words rang through her mind as Lisa sat in circle, waiting for the High Priestess to anoint her.  It was her first closed ritual, the first time she’d worked with her sisters since being initiated into the Coven of the Golden Goose ( Read more... )

Black-Eyed Children! EEEEEE! They creep me out so much and yet fit perfectly into the dark part of the Sidhe. I adore how perfectly you carry through from her tears washing off the ointment and only seeing the little man from her left eye. This was really fun. I'm a sucker for fairy stories, but this is well developed, besides.

Thanks - I wanted to do a spin on the midwife's tale where she gets some ointment on one eye accidentally and loses the sight in it when it's discovered she can see them. Glad you like it!

Creeeeeepy little man!! Interesting that it's the eye the ointment did NOT get into that causes all the trouble...!

She rubbed that eye and because it ended up watering, all the ointment was washed out of it. The reason she could still see from the other one was because she wasn't able to participate in the ritual and the grounding exercise - had she been grounded like everyone else, all would have been fine. It's still a bit clunky around that point but I was running out of time to clarify that :D

Ooookay, got it now! I see where you were trying to get that in - but I know how deadlines go! Thanks for explaining, and I still love the story. I can see this becoming part of something much bigger - or is it already?

It's just meant as a twist on the story of a midwife who was blinded in one eye after assisting at a Fey birth and getting some ointment on one side. So I hadn't really thought through where else it might go beyond that. I seem to have written an awful lot of stories this season that have the potential for further development though, so there's always the possibility of coming back to it.

Yeah, I got the impression she might be a self-made coven leader. Guess that's why it always pays to do your research!
