The Weak Force

It was just a star, one among countless others, hanging in the night sky.  Perhaps it shone a little more brightly than the rest, perhaps it had a green tinge to it at times, but it was still just a star, until the day it wasn’t.

At first, the change was subtle.  It was ever so slightly bigger, night on night, its light ever so slightly stronger ( Read more... )

"Triangle surrounded by flashing lights?" My theory is that the aliens are friendly... and they love their techno... and were hoping to turn Earth into a danceclub. Did anyone try, like, wielding glow-sticks and wacky hats in the triangle's presence? Maybe the kick drum and house piano chords would kick in then.

You know, nobody did try the dancing thing. They totally should have - it wouldn't have been nearly as scary once the true nature of the triangle had been revealed.

Well I didn't really have the physics angle in mind when I was pondering this - I was thinking more of the military force angle after we noticed a really bright star the other night we hadn't seen before...

Wow, chilling! Loved this line - "it was not unknown for neglected piles of comics to throw themselves at him, insisting that he read them that very second instead of doing whatever job" - that's what happens to me all the time when I clean the basement! This was so creepy and raised so many questions - reminded me a little of Ray Bradbury, too, with the folksiness of tone belying the terrible danger.
