LJ Fails Again?

Jan 06, 2009 10:46

My best wishes to everyone on the LJ staff who got laid off. It happens, but I must say their timing and lack of severance pay sucks hardcore. In good news, unemployment isn't half bad, and the unexpected free time can be a blessing. My room has never been so clean ( Read more... )

It wasn't on LJ news, but I have some staffers on my friends list and it's hitting news sources now. The news says like, 30 people got laid off, but a staffer friend of mine says it was more like 13. Still, no severance package and no warning. :P

Anyway, it...may not spell good things for LJ, but that's really questionable at this point. LJ could conceivably be kept running with very few people (I theorize, anyway), and even if LJ goes kaput, we should have some notice. Still, I'm going to be backing things up because it's better to be paranoid than lose years of entries.

If you remember and you've got an invite code, I'll be here. xD;

I'm going to be going around asking for inksome codes in about a month, so I wouldn't have to lie about my age. |D I would hate it if LJ goes down, though. 8|

I haven't backed up my entries in a long-ass time, though. I did it once, but I don't think I still have the program I used to do it, and I cannot remember what it was called.

edit: Oh wait, NEVER MIND, I still have the program. Time to back up entries.

Yeah, it would suck to have to re-make communities and basically start them from scratch. Speaking of which, I should probably back up my communities.

There's also a post here about backing up entries if you want to check it out. I should have posted that before.

I always mean to back up my entries, then....... forget. But I'd be pretty pissed if like almost seven years worth of entries suddenly disappeared.

Also, if you want an invite to inksome, let me know. I'd be happy to send one over :D

Yeah, I should be doing backups regularly, but I never get around to it. And I've been on LJ about seven years too.

I'd love one! :D My contact info is here. ♥

Ugh... I really don't want to have to make an Inksome account.
Maybe if LJ goes down, I'll just stop blogging.

Dreamwidth is in production, and it looks really, really promising. And I don't think LJ will go down any time before Dreamwidth gets running, though I could be wrong. But don't stop blogging bb, I will miss you. ;;

I just put myself down on the DW mailing list. :) Some of the features they mentioned sound really attractive.
