Utterly real and gritty reading. You're writing is gorgeous, and the scene is heartrending. I really enjoyed reading this :)
I must say I did want more closure in the end, but as you say, real life often ends up just like this, with the one person never knowing the words said in passing hurt so much.

So sorry about the utter lack of closure. I wanted it as well (in fact, the initial run through of this has a pleasanter end) but it didn't work as well. Real seemed better than fluff; I do not know why.

My initial reaction was squealing and hand clapping (forgive me, it's early) so I think that's a definite go right ahead. :D Can't wait to see what you come up with.

This is great! And if you consider the characters OOC, then forgetaboutit. They are just fine. Watson, going about his business, just being understatedly awesome; Holmes being a bit of a pillock; and a feisty Mrs Hudson for the win! Throw in some angst, and we're done here!

Honestly, I spent a great deal of time angsting over what I felt was incredibly OOC behavior. But if you are certain that I'm incorrect, I'll breathe a happy sigh of relief. :) Phew.

I would love to see a continuation where Sherlock gets to explain himself! If you ever feel like writing one that is.

:) Yay! Well, I'm not certain about continuation but I do have a rather odd alternate version of this from Holmes's POV. I must admit he has distinctive 09 verse leanings as opposed to the more Doyle-ish version that came around in here.
