What I saw was a very, very tired and overworked, and possibly infected with scary plague!Doctor Watson, who, by the very nature of his plight wasn't able to read between the lines. He was "seeing, but not observing."
Holmes was pure awesomeness. Do you mind if I friend you?

I agree with your assessment about it but I figured I would warn people with opposing POVs on Watson's reaction to such stress. :) I hate to disappoint people on the front of character development seeing as it is one of my biggest pet peeves while reading.
