I'm not disagreeing with you about #2, but you have to understand that your upbringing is what makes you as responsible as you are.
It's why people who have children @ 15 raise children who have children @ 15. Every now and then you have a person who sees past the flaws of their upbringing and can ascend their birthright, but the majority of people cannot. Or so I believe.
I'm not necessarily excusing, but that's like saying, "If you've only been taught Algebra, it's your fault for not going to the library and learning Calculus."
It can happen. It does happen. To judge someone based upon the thousands w/i possible millions/billions it's not exactly fair, though.
Debt isn't always bad, it's just sometimes a necessary evil. Going into debt to buy a home, buy a car, paying medical bills, the birth of a child, said child going to college, etc. are all fairly valid reasons for going into debt - with the assumption that there's the plan and effort to get out of debt. The trick is that when you go in deb, you don't dig yourself further into that hole by spending it on frivolous things like eating at restaurants every day or buying iPods.

People are freaking stupid.
The combination of money and people makes it even worse. So... it's not just you. :)
