i'm as sorry as your guys to see such slow responses, but i have some bad news. I was run over by a drunk, while skating legally, with the light, across a crosswalk, and it took 8 months to get him to criminal trial, and more than 2 years to get him into court for damages. I wish someone had told me at this at first: "The best advice i can give is to find a good attorney, and get comfortable with being screwed for a while... a long, long while." I've seen that there are a couple of attorneys in LA that specialize in cycling cases, check in the local bike rags and contact one of them. The trail isn't going to get any colder, your witnesses and their testimony are fairly strong. Keep the faith, and be patient.

good luck, jen!

what information do you have (license plate number, etc.)? if the police aren't going to do anything about it, let's do it ourselves.

That is so frustrating and sad. My best wishes to Jen for a speedy recovery.

In the meantime, if the police aren't doing anything, start calling local news stations and papers, hopefully that will help get things rolling.

Case reference number? maccruiskeen October 31 2006, 19:05:32 UTC
Lars, is there any case number of anything like that which I can use if I'm calling Garcetti or the LAPD? Just so that they can't file it under "General complaints" and it has to be tied specifically to the case?

Also, maybe fuzzing out the sound of Jen's details from the video? ID theft and that sort of thing?

A los_angeles community member who wanted to say I'm sorry to hear that your girlfriend had to go through that, and that the police response as been as pathetically inadequate as it's been. Any auto insurance company would certainly classify this as a hit-and-run, and the police should, too.

"Any auto insurance company would certainly classify this as a hit-and-run"

great point.

Considering Bratton has reversed a lot of the policies of complacent policing installed by Parks and that guy before him (such as dusting and fingerprinting all reported auto break-ins in hopes of finding the suspects as opposed to simply taking a report as they did in the past) Im surprised of your experience.

I'd make as much noise as possible with Garcetti. As tiring as this will be, Im thinking this will be your best bet. Good luck.

hey lars, it's dennis/aka rev.dak. I'm sorry to hear about this incident. Reading this is actually making me very furious. Be persistant with the city but also be patient, because it's a fact that the city is run by a bunch of morons with a fucked up set of priorities.

Hopefully this will turn in to good news soon. We took her bike and clothes to the station today to be entered in to evidence.
