Anime can make anything exiting. As evidence, I present "Yakitate!! Japan!"
It's an anime, one Summer recommended to me, about bread. My time as a progenitor of bread not withstanding, there was little reason I would give this anime the time of day. An otaku has a way of impressing in a man the urge to see just about anything, even dramatic narrative depicting the trials of a young baker, so I gave it a whirl. At this point, it's locked in stalemate with Excel Saga as "Best Anime Comedy Ever."
I lost interest in Yakitake!! after I realized that what's-his-face the main character would never, ever come close to losing one of his bread fights. Maybe the anime is better. I wouldn't know.
Hell, I'd be the antagonist! Except this anime would have a twist! The bad guy would ALWAYS win, crushing the body of the anti-hero over and over until he could barely hold a cigarette. Also, the anti-hero would become sterile through the repeated abuse. Kinda sad, but hey, anti-heros never really get their day, do they?
My brother and I could NOT stop laughing as we read this, because it seems to be the formula for a classic drama, and the characters seemed alive to me.
