Going friends-only

Jul 07, 2004 23:00

I really don't like making HUGE announcements like this, because they usually just sound corny. I just wanted to let everybody know that I'm eventually going to make this journal friends-only. I'll be kind of sorry that everyone won't be able to read it, but it's just way too risky. I want to be able to control who sees my journal, because I do put ( Read more... )

That's scary. I had to make mine friends only because of freaky stalker people where I used to live. Good thing for me, I only started making entries Jan. 2004, so I didn't have a whole lot to lock.

So, I get to stay, right?! <3 :)

Consider yourself kept on the friends list :)

I know where you're coming from...I'm not worried so much about crazies as I am about people who know me personally. For me, having some people I know in real life run across my journal is a much scarier prospect than having an online stalker.

woo, go me. :)

Exactly. I don't mind certain people that I know personally reading my journal. But there are some out there that like to read what you write and then...gossip and start all kinds of drama. I hate that.

Hey, I never saw this comment...weird. I think I had email notifications of comments turned off for awhile b/c of some drama or something. Anyway, if you're still interested, I've added you!

I have a question! Please help me! Okay, first does, Fr. stand for Friar? Okay, and furthermore, I want as much help as possible in learning about Catholicism...please! I don't understand it, but I truly feel drawed to the religion even though I haven't been involved in any of the services ever. Help me with any information that would be most important for me to know. I have a whole book on Catholicism that I started reading last year...thanks!

I'm sorry to bother you with this. I just am so frustrated because I can't find help with this from anyone. I saw your entry on LJ Catholics..but I have to wait to be accepted into the community. So yeah, we'll see! Thanks again!

Okay, I double checked, and some of my Catholic books don't have the imprimatur. I suspect this was because the books I'm looking at were written by Popes John Paul II and Benedict XVI - obviously they aren't going to teach error, because, well, they're Popes and they know what they're talking about. :-P

Anyway, not ALL of the good reliable books have the imprimatur, but I believe if the book was written by an ordinary priest or layperson, it's necessary.

Hi! No, you aren't bothering me at all. Actually, I love it when people ask me about Catholicism. It helps me understand my faith better when I try to explain it to others ( ... )

Regarding Book heartofpink625 June 19 2006, 18:20:36 UTC
Thanks for all that! Ooopss! I have the book you said wasn't in line with all the teachings, however it is where I have learned the basis of the history and about the rosary and saints and whatnot. I have "The Complete Idiot's Guide to Understanding Catholicism" I bought it when I was with a friend who used to be Catholic when she was younger and has just recently converted to Mormonism.

I have not read "Idiot's Guide", but I would not recommend it on the basis of the very negative reviews on Amazon and the lack of an imprimatur. I purchased "Catholicism for Dummies" for my boyfriend, who is not Catholic, and I can vouch for it personally. That book does have the imprimatur and lays a good foundation for understanding Catholicism as a whole, not just as a collection of cultural artifacts. The rosary and saints are beautiful and wonderful things - however, to understand how they fit into the plan of salvation through the Catholic Church, you must start at square one ( ... )
