My laptop arrived yesterday and now I get to spend the next several days trying to get it set up so it's suitable for my needs. A lot of what goes into it is disabling all the stupid/automated features that exist only to fuck things up. My second LoR writer was having issues sending her finished letter to the admissions office. She'd tried to get it in for several days and her laptop appeared to be misbehaving in a massive way. Using a dummy file as an attachment (so I didn't see the real letter) I was able to jump through some hoops and cross my eyes to get the process moving.

I consulted my records and I've seen a couple hundred donated machines since I started on my fantastic one-person volunteer project. You wouldn't believe how many come in with notes taped to them saying things like 'runned good'; 'just in the shop'; 'great machine!'

As I've been griping about the pain in the ass computer shopping, I woke up today to discover that Mr. 12.5yrs can't even access my Yahoo mail account! The OS is too old and the browser is too old and there's no way to update things. I'm borrowing Bonnie's shitty Chromebook just to take care of that basic.
