I've had a few days to digest the whole Disney buying Star Wars thing, and in that time I've moved from apathetic to optimistic.

Cut 'cause I ramble a bit. )

This entire thing is making me wonder whether The Phantom Menace or The Last Airbender was a worse movie...

Kenneth Branagh might be very good for Star Wars - the original three movies were really just your standard heroic epic, but in space. And I think he'd be very well suited to do such material. And if he hired some of the same people as for Thor, it would be the most gorgeous looking Star Wars movie ever.

I'd also be curious about how Ridley Scott would do, since he's also very good at making his sci-fi worlds looked lived in, and not all clean and shiny.

That said, I'd really really really love to see a female director helming the new trilogy. Maybe one of the movies would even pass the very first part of the Bechdel Test!

Personally, I would say Airbender was worse, but I was older and much more critical when I saw it - and I'd never seen the show. I thought it was much, much worse after I marathoned all three seasons of the cartoon on Netflix. I can rewatch The Phantom Menace without cringing...Airbender, not so much.

Yep. And I'm all for more pretty stars. ;)

I'm sad to say I had to google Ridley Scott, but I agree, he would be an interesting choice. Especially if they decide to do a time jump, because I think the universe would have a hard time restoring itself after everything the Empire did.

Wielding lightsabers and being just as competent and kick-awesome as their fellow male Jedi. I still have all kinds of issues with the way Lucas ( ... )
