twice in one day, because we're here and its so hot the monsoon feels like now and just that really.

we didnt have any electricity for at least 8 days, and running about between that means its all handwritten for that time and i have to add it. varkala to kollam was 9 hours on the hottest train ever. we took a houseboat floated up the backwaters of kerala past chinese fishing nets, tiny villages and even tinier islands, home to only one man or his cow, bought some toddy/todi and settled for the night with our keralan boat crew by the shore. we watched the sunset, had dinner floating and ( Read more... )

we had no reserved seats so we sat on the floor, wedged in. there was a lot of shouting [at us] but since we don't speak tamil we looked down at the hundreds of toes instead to avoid glares. eventually someone helped and 5 hours in to the 7 hour journey we had seats that werent below a lot of others.
