A beta fish brightens up a desk. You can get put them in vases with plants and then if you don't feed it, it can eat the plant and hopefully not die.

Get a spider plant--you can't kill them as long as you water them when they turn brown.

i agree with hannah, the bamboo plants are fun, inviting, and easy to take care of, you literally have to water them once every week or so

you could also idk, decorate with books you've read because they are always conversation starters if someone else has read it or has a question about it

I think I will look into getting some sturdy plants. As well as taping other random stuff to the walls. And yes, ThinkGeek is awesome :)
