China earthquake

I had been planning to post something about the Sichuan earthquake for ages but couldn't think of the words. I just can't even begin to get my head around the thought of 80 000 people, mostly children, dead - and in so many cases purely because of shonky construction of the schools they attended. the US only donated $500,000??? ugh.

i don't think the majority of the earthquake victims were children. the # is currently estimated at between 9,000 - 15,000. still disproportionate and senselessly high though...

Thanks for the information. I had assumed most of the dead were children, probably because it's the kids who are the focus of media attention here. The US funding figure may have gone up by now, but certainly when I heard about it it was only $500 000.
