ok...so I'm on the third book in my journey of informed pre-conception motherhood (as I have began calling it).
"So, that's what they're for!"...an already amazing book written by a mother, journalist and lactation expert/consultant. (

I posted this on an LJ forum that I belong to and got a few interesting responses.
I love the fact that I have found a lot of people who are having or planning to have children and feel as strongly about these issues as I do. It's important that the "mission" of keeping things that matter in the forground is not abandoned.

The book is called "So That's What They're For". It's a really funny and informative read. I shelved it for a while since there are more timely things for me to read about.
:)
I plan to join up and get back into it once I'm actually pregnant.
How are you doing?
Shanon asked me to Doula her birth...so i'm reading up on birth things more...and I have to learn the Bradley Method.

The first book is important especially if she is thinking of going natural because it talks about epidurals, pitocin and other medical interventions extensively.
The second book teaches you how to have more confidence in your body and trust your insticts when it comes to birthing.

I have been "womaning up" so to speak...on the true nature of birth and so on...figuring that a life-time of brainwashing can use as much help as possible to re-program into "Birth is NOT an emergency situation...except MAYBE for the 6% who actually have justifiable C-section scenarios".
I hope to do a home birth when the time comes...and if there is reason to think there'll be complications, I'll have my forcebly educated advocate husband to fend off doctors until they are actually needed.
:)
At home, she'll be able to walk around whenever she wants, rock and sing her pains away...whatever she wants. I know i'm the same way, so I'm looking forward to seeing her do it first.
She's doing pretty good...and her stress has gone down TONS since she insisted on homebirth as her first option.
How has your pregnancy been thus far?

Just found this and I joined today. I gathered quite a bit from the Bradley method. The method in Birthing from Within is kinda like a hodge-podge of several different methods and so is the methods my instructor is teaching in Lamaze class at Good Sam Hospital.
So far so good. I'm due in 7 weeks and I think I remember Andy saying that your friend is due the same week as me.

Excited?
I really love the "3 faces of birth" that Bradley presents...it makes so much sense and really my help a lot of women get the care THEY need from a doctor. (ie: if they are not in phase two, then there is no need to induce)
The pictures are funny too.

I'm still pregnant also. Got just under three weeks left...or 19 days!
I stop working on the 14th so I finish out this week- which is a short week. And then next week. Plus I'm working half days next Thurs and this Friday due to my doctor appointments.
I never did read the Bradley method book. Someone also recommended a Hypnobirthing book. I just did not want to read anymore books about babies, pregnancy, or childbirth for a while. Maybe I still will when I stop working.
Soon!
Just wondering how you all are doing!

Shanon is still 3 or so weeks away too. We are planning a Mommy shower for her next week, so hopefully she will last that long!
