Happy Solstice!

Jun 21, 2010 09:51

In a measly three hours we'll be past the "solstice point" - I am wondering what a proper celebration is.  Should I energy dance in the sun, perhaps?  *g*  Tonight there will be cold mackerel with horseradish cream, new potatoes and salad for dinner.  And possibly chocolate ice cream for dessert ( Read more... )

I always used to celebrate the Solstice by staying at the beach until the last once of light was squeezed from the sky. Harder and harder to do that now that so many other things vie for our time and attention - like Luke's bday and graduation today.
Hurrah for being pain free.

Happy bday and graduation to Luke! I would've loved to celebrate solstice by staying up late on the beach... And pain free is always good, but you knew that. How are you?

Oh my God, your solstice meal sounds delicious. *licks lips* Anyway, it still gets dark for us down here in the UK, but enjoy the midnight sun! :D

Ah - no midnight sun here, I'm afraid. But a measly 90 min of "darkness" ain't bad either. And the dinner was absolutely fantastic. Nom nom.

I'm glad you're feeling so energetic. Gosh, I've been feeling like a lump lately. At the solstice of all times... I might be completely backwards from the rest of the world. Do a dance for me, o.k.?

Weeeellll, energetic and energetic. I wouldn't really call it that, but I'm not totally down in the dumps. I'll energy dance for you! *twirls*

Happy Solstice! Although I fear I must sleep tonight. :P

Same! And yeah - I slept too. It's just that it's a wonderful Norwegian song, where the lyrics go "you shan't sleep away the summer night, she is too light for that." And please excuse the horrid on-the-heel translation...

I love me some Solstice fun. How late can you stay up in Norway and still see the light on the horizon? I went to a gig last night, turned out at 11:00pm, and it was still light. You guys are further north than us, so it must stay light until really early in the morning! =D

My thunderbird sun/moon app says dusk lasts till 23:28, so I guess that's how long. Except we were rather late to bed the other night, and I can't remember it being really dark even then. Not much further north here, as we're on Oslo latitude, but get up to middle Norway and it's a noticeable difference. :-) Not to mention how it is in Kirkenes, where my cousin lives. There they won't have a sunset until August some time. IIRC.
