Aren't the bulbs kind of expensive? That might be a reason.

I was absolutely thrilled to read through haven's event calendar! why does frederick have to be so far away? and why does the leather jack class have to be while tim and i are in NYC?? you must have it again!

Just wait till you blow a bulb. I worked with a projector once int he student center, 6k for the projector 1k for the replacement bulb and guy who can replace it.

oh, another fun part, when it's been on too long and over heats, or it may have an automatic shut off that magically flips it off while you're playing.

My goodness! The guys knew about the bulb problem, and chose a model that doesn't have terribly expensive bulbs, but the auto shut-off could be a pain!

Believe it or not, there are entire companies that make a living renting them out and setting them up for corporate meetings.

And really, the main reasons that projection hasn't overtaken giant LCD/plasma monitors are the drawbacks that you're listed, plus the fact that most living rooms don't have/aren't willing to commit the space needed by the projector to produce a large image. But mainly, having the sun drown out your projector television makes for a less than enjoyable experience.
