While writing my query letter, I've been googling like a fiend and looking for templates and sample query letters. On my journey I found that many people recommend having a bio/credential paragraph. I've gone through sample letter after sample letter with full and juicy credential paragraphs. But what if you've never been published before? How are ( Read more... )

For the query letter, just leave the bio part completely out if you've got no credentials. (Unless, for example, you're qualified to write about something because you've done it--like if I wrote a book about irish dancers, I'd mention that I irish danced for 6 years in my query). MOST agents understand that every author has to start SOMEWHERE, and not all good writing is backed up with credentials. As for the (very) few who really WANT publishing creds, just ignore them. There are tons who don't need it and who like debut authors. :)
