I wrote these around the same time I wrote
In the eye of the storm, I thought I might as well post these too.
And that concludes all my (finished) writings so far, hopefully I'll finish my long story at some point.
Do let me know if the ratings are wrong.

I have no rights to Merlin, this is just fan fiction.
The BoxOne glance at Arthur's face was all Gaius needed. He sank down on the nearest chair.
“Oh no...”
“I am so sorry, Gaius. I was powerless to do anything. He saved us all and I... we searched everywhere. I couldn't even find his body.”
Gaius had never looked or felt this old. “I should have done more for the boy. I should have... I might...” his voice trailed of.
Arthur hesitated, not sure how to find the right words or if such words even existed.
“Merlin said... before he... he said "tell Gaius to open the box.”
Gaius looked up at the prince. “The box? I don't... Please, Sire. What were his exact words?”
Arthur swallowed, searching for his voice. “If I don't make it back, tell Gaius to open the box.”
Gaius nodded and with his back turned to the prince he slowly went to open a secret compartment in a drawer, from where he took out a simple wooden box. On the lid it said “if I don't make it back” in Merlin's handwriting. Gaius stroked the letters on the lid before he opened it and took out a handful of letters. He turned to face the prince.
“Merlin wrote a few letters in case something... This one is for you, Sire. There is one for Gwen too, if you see her.”
“I will bring it too her.” He looked at Gaius, wanting to say more.
“His mother, Hunith...”
“I will let her know. He was my ward after all... my responsibility.” Arthur wanted to protest, Gaius' guilt mirrored his own, there was no way Gaius was to blame for this.
“Thank you for coming in person, Sire. I appreciate it.” his eyes saying more than his words.
Arthur nodded in reply, quietly closing the door as he left. The folded letter with his name on felt heavy in his hand. As did Gwen's. She would be crushed.
Damn it! Merlin was just a servant boy, not a knight or a warrior. He should not have had to write letters in case of his death, he should be safe and sound, complaining about chores and the amount of clothes that needed mending and live to be an old man. Arthur forced himself to focus, focus, focus. No man is worth your tears, that's what his father had always said. And Arthur had said the same to Merlin. He believed it then, and could not go back on it now.
Now alone, Gaius silently arranged the letters in front of him on the table, seeing the names Merlin had carefully written down, wondering what they said. He would There were no note or letter for Gaius in the box, Gaius already knew what he needed to know. He closed the now empty box and went back to the drawer. There he solemnly placed the box back where it had been, right next to it's twin labelled 'if I should die'.
There was still hope, and he would cling to it with all his might.

The best laid plans
The world was swimming before him, and throbbing pain in his head made Merlin wish he was back in his dreamless sleep.
-Oh great! NOW you decide to wake up. Merlin, you told me I killed the Great Dragon.
Arthur voice sounded quite stressed and very accusing.
Merlin blinked and looked around. From what he could gather, they were on a flat plain, high in the mountains somewhere, chained on hands and feet and anchored to solid rock. Arthur was frantically fighting to get loose. Merlin was confused.
-Yes, I did say that, didn't I? Why are you bringing that up? How did we get up here?
Arthur practically hissed.
-Morgause and Morgana clearly do not agree with you, Merlin. And that huge dragon shaped creature rapidly approaching begs to differ as well! They dragged us up here and have been chanting and doing God-knows-what to call him here, apparently hoping to gain an ally.
Merlin blinked.
-Wait, so instead of killing us themselves, they decided to sacrifice us to the dragon? Are they here?
If Arthur had been able to reach Merlin he might very well have tried to strangle him.
-They didn't stick around, Merlin, because a huge dragon is ON THE WAY! Focus, Merlin! What's wrong with you?
Merlin looked at Arthur with wide eyes and started laughing. -Oh Arthur, thank God you are chained up, because you are really going to hate me for this.
...
Far down in the valley, the two witch sisters saw the faint silhouette of the Great Dragon land, and moments later they heard the dragon's roaring laughter echoing in the mountains. They smiled to each other, completely misunderstanding everything.
