So what are you supposed to do with backstory when it comes to book 2 in a series?

I've been told that you're supposed to go ahead with the assumption that the reader hasn't bothered with the first book, but I'm still finding problems. Just how much backstory do you include? Is there a general rule about this, or does it come down to the author ( Read more... )

I saw it last weekend, and I have to say, it's fantastic. That is all.

Part of its success, I think, is that it didn't try too hard to build a story around the songs - it used the themes that were in the songs already, but the plot didn't feel contrived, which it sometimes can with these things (Hello, Mamma Mia).
