Side-Along-Apparations would have been so useful to know earlier. A pet theory--one that never was actually inserted into a fic, so far as I recall--died with their introduction. Luckily, it was a minor pet theory.
We now have a Canon cutoff date for Harry imbibing strong liquor, which means no "sneaking off for firewhiskey and lovin's in the Astronomy Tower" fics set before this summer. And hopefully fewer drinking-game fics.
I'm not sure I'd give most fanfic authors enough credit to be able to notice this, or to care, honestly.
Now, Dobby was able to defy his masters, even though he almost killed himself doing it, but Kreacher can't. How does that parse?
Dobby has a reputation as an unusually strong-willed house-elf . . . I'm not sure even Kreacher can measure up. (He only managed to betray Sirius by working out a loop-hole in one of Sirius's orders, after all . . .)
And this Side-Along Apparition thing would have been REALLY NICE to know about before! Man, the things in RP that's going to change . . .
