MAN DIES OF EXPOSURE
February 23, 2008

APPLE GROVE, PA - A Bethesda, MD man was found dead early Friday in a forested area near Apple Grove, Pennsylvania, approximately forty miles west of Scranton.

Police found a car belonging to Roger Sanchez, 34, of Bethesda, out of fuel and abandoned by the side of rural route 214, and were able to follow a trail to the body approximately 0.5 miles from the road.

Sanchez was found face-down with his arms wrapped around his chest. The body had sunk approximately two inches into the ground overnight. Sanchez's feet were sunk so far into the frozen earth that the body was "difficult to remove," said an unnamed source close to the investigation. The upper arms and torso showed signs of trauma.

The county coroner's office ruled that the cause of death was exposure to the elements.

The body has been claimed by relatives and returned to Maryland for burial.
