I can't stop missing her. It strikes me at odd moments, and I remember -- finding her in her favorite sunbeam. Mother wants to get a puppy and I do too, because life feels so empty without a dog to take care of (Paprika took care of us as much as we did her, I think), but Father keeps making excuses ( Read more... ) -

Pouring rain in the pre-dawn darkness of winter. The windows are streaked. Everything is fragmented by raindrops. First snow. The flakes are only visible beneath streetlamps, where they fly downward like clouds of mayflies. I woke at 7 and ran to stand in the open doorway, breathe in the cold.

Paprika is doing much better. She is sleeping most of the time, but can walk, eat, drink, and do all her normal activity without much issue. The muscles in her jaw seem to not be working that well, though, so she is on a soft food diet. Her eyelids have gone lazy as well. The vet doesn't know yet what's wrong, so she has another appointment ( Read more... )
