On Thurday night, I will be getting on a plane headed for Orlando. I have never been on a plane before, and I'm scared to death. Everyone has re-assured me that I'll be just fine and it isn't a big deal, but sometimes things that aren't a big deal to lots of people are a HUGE deal to me. I'm not quite sure how to combat my anxiety.

I hope this won't put you off flying. Statistically speaking, it is still the safest way to travel. swashbuckler332 November 8 2006, 05:33:41 UTC
Eek. You know, I've never been afraid of flying (save a trip I took when I was two, also to Orlando, where I was worried that if we flew high enough we would break the stars), but truth be told no matter how much I reassure you that you'll be fine, it won't help much.

I would have said before to bring along a lot of music to distract you, but somebody in the Bureau of Homeland Security watched The Living Daylights and apparently came to the conclusion that terrorists could garrote people with ear bud headphones.

Well thanks for trying! Your Superman reference did help to lighten the mood a bit, too. I had planned on bringing some of your mixes along for the trip, but if they think I'm that blonde dude from DAYLIGHTS, I'm in trouble......Maybe I'll just throw an exploding milk bottle at them :)

My first time on a plane was to Orlando a few years ago...it will be about 2 hours, just bring stuff to distract you...it'll go faster than you think...that or don't sleep for like 24 hours so you'll be tired and just sleep!

I'm sorry to hear that Dollface.....I got like that several months ago. My doctor prescribed Paxil for me, which helps regulate anxiety, but if you want a stomach relaxer, you can take something called Levsin. If you don't want to go the perscription route, there is a natural remidy called St. John's wort that you can buy at any drug store or vitamin shop. it is an ALL NATURAL way of calming nerves and regulating positive moods. I chew a lot of spirimint gum, because spiriment is also a natural relaxer.

my friend matt that lives in australia is incredibly afraid of plains too. but hes had to fly so many times it so kinda sucks for him. but ive been on a plane with him and i saw his reaction to the plane ride and i can understand how some people just get really freaked out for whatever reason. he has medication to help him. i would suggest taking like dramamine or something that will knock u out til u get there.
