This weekend was full of car fuckery. (As it happens, my car was fucked in the back and then in the front. All around fucked)
I drove to Ithaca on Friday, and got back today.

movie review: the boss of it all
I went to see The Boss of It All yesterday. Allegedly the first comedy by Lars von Trier. (Though personally, I thought that Dogville was a comedy.)
It made me chuckle, certainly. Of the six people in the theater me and this one professor-looking old guy were the only ones laughing out loud.

return of cooking thoughts
Got a crazy cooking idea today. Get this: mango and sweet potato braised chicken thighs. Mirepoix, champagne mangoes, sweet potatoes, chicken thighs, garlic, cardamom and maybe a splash of white wine.
Originally I was gonna go with paprika, but sylke suggested cardamom. Which is a pretty nifty idea. I hardly know what to do with my cardamom pods ( Read more... ) -

Over the last couple of days I've watched the first and second series of Spaced thanks to YouTube. The attention to detail and the lengths to which they go for a pop culture reference are amazing. And it's funny too! (Sadly a lot of pop culture nerd ‘humor’ isn't.)
To top it off, I went to see Hot Fuzz at the theatre yesterday. Good stuff. ( Read more... ) -

Wow. My new socks contain every single material that is normally used to make socks. It's like the factory was run on others' leftovers. Or possibly by a very indecisive manager:
7% Cashmere, 10% Silk, 20% Wool, 27% Cotton, 33% Nylon, 3% Spandex.
Also, METAL. In the form of a shoehorn. That was packaged together with the socks. Classy.

winter break in media
Since I suck at updating on a regular basis, and since a simple chronological account of what I've been upto since mid-December would be a little bit boring, I think that instead I'll just describe all the media I've consumed since I left Pittsburgh for NYC, and then NYC for Ithaca, and then Ithaca for Pittsburgh.
