if you need some good bogged down boring read, check out Battlefield Earth by L. Ron Hubbard. 1182 pages of the slowest story i have ever forced myself to read, in the history of forcing myself to read boring books, for sport (though i do avoid Thomas Hardy, at all costs).
that book took me a good week to read.
